In a small mid-western conservative town, a new bar/tavern started a building to open up their business. The local Baptist church started a campaign to block the bar from opening with petitions and prayers. Work progressed, however right up until the week before opening, when a lightning strike hit the bar and it burned to the ground. The church folks were rather smug in their outlook after that, until the bar owner sued the church on the grounds that the church was ultimately responsible for the demise of his building, either through direct or indirect actions or means. The church vehemently denied all responsibility or any connection to the buildings demise in its reply to the court. As the case made it's way into court, the judge looked over the paperwork at the hearing and commented, "I don't know how I'm going to decide this, but as it appears from the paperwork, we have a bar owner who believes in the power of prayer, and an entire church congregation that doesn't."
Hmmm...

LOL! Good one! Just goes to show you, you can't have it both ways...
rockync..you got that right! :)
I wasn't all together sure the 'church' had a right to be 'casting stones' in that particular fashion, but it just goes to show you should be careful what you ask for.
LOL. Good point!
vin..all I could think was, "do they, or don't they, believe in prayer?"
Well, if it would have been me, I would have been praying that God would have stopped it from opening up its doors and even though I would not have prayed for it to burn down, I would have known that it was the Lord's choice in how he answered my prayer. I would have been very thankful and given God the glory. This is coming from an old lady who had a Dad she loved very much but because he drank , I have many scares on my heart that should not be there. I would never want another child to have the fear that I felt for a time growing up until my Dad was saved after my oldest son was born. That was an answer to prayer also. So, Yes, I wouldn't have minded in the least telling the judge that yes, I prayed and God answered. connie from Texas
Connie..It looks like if those folks really believed their prayers were answered, they would have said so.
It looks like it came down to not wanting to be held responsible for anything.
I wonder what happened to their faith then?
No wonder that some folks get a bad impression of Christianity.
Jan., I agree. I believe they would have said so also. It sounds to me like they didn't have any faith. You are right about why some people get a bad impression of Christianity, it because Christians aren't acting like Christ. connie from Texas
Connie..you are so right.
