Think On These Things

I'll bet you're wondering what in the world this post is going to be about, right?

Well, it's not about anything, really. It's just that I am giving myself a break from thinking about the outcome of the election, and the protests against people who exercised their rights (by voting no against gay marriages,) with intimidation, threats, and pure hatred. I am mentally fatigued and emotionally drained by all the hatred that I am seeing manifested, in one way or another, against innocent people wanting nothing more than moral decency, and to be at peace with their fellow man.

The reason I posted this photo, is because I like it. It is a part of my kitchen, and it is whimsical with roosters, chickens, a painting with a country woman feeding her chickens, and a planter that looks like an old shoe, with a bird's nest full of baby birds, being fed by their Mama.

There's a bookcase with some of my very old, favorite cookbooks, and you can see the casserole dish which looks like a duck. It belonged to my Mama, and stirs some precious memories when I look at it.

Maybe, if you click on the picture you will be able to see the little Lincoln head bookends, steadying a picture of an old black couple saying grace over a meal, and a couple of small music boxes sculpted from copper.

There are a few other things there too, including a small plaque which says, "Lord, help me to remember that there is nothing that is going to happen to me today, that together you and I can't handle."

All these things bring comfort, and a sense of peace to me, so I will enjoy them, and not think about all the other stuff..at least, for now.

Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honorable, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.~Philippians 4:8

I like your house. We have some ceramic chickens too. Plus, I have the real things running around outside!

Hello Jan,
What a wonderful post! Your photo is lovely. Everything is so warm and welcoming.
You are so right about hate.Hate is the worst thing for this whole world, especially when it's group driven. Hate brings out the worst in people and there's never a good outcome if something that begins, was formed by those with hateful intentions.
Wishing you a very pleasant evening,
Lydia

Hermit..thanks.

Actually, all my chickens and roosters are made from metal..the feathers on the big rooster on the bookcase actually move in a breeze! :)

Lydia..thank you. I like things warm and welcoming, and this house which was built in 1890 is just right for that!

I've posted a couple of other photos, too, and maybe I will post more.

I enjoy all the pictures of your home that you post on your blog..I wish I had your gift of growing beautiful plants and flowers!

Well, not YOUR gift, maybe, but one like it! :)

A pleasant evening to you, too, Lydia.

I too love having things around me that make smile and remember - there is a mobile of fruits made from capis shell hanging in my kitchen; it's been hanging in my homes for over thirty years and my oldest son used to like to watch it slowly revolving in the light. In my dining room is a hutch made of rock maple that was lovingly restored by my now dead father in law - it is my reminder that no matter our differences (and there were a few...) he loved me. I hope you enjoy your Thanksgiving meal in your "new" old house.
Peace & Love,
Rocky

Rockync..thank you.

I've been trying to find a smoked turkey for Thanksgiving, but no luck so far.

I hope that you have a wonderful Thanksgiving with friends and family.

We have a lot to be thankful for, don't we?

Peace and love to you, too. :)

I DO have a lot to be thankful for! I'll have family in for the Thanksgiving meal, business has picked up in the last few weeks so I think we'll make it through the winter. I live in a relatively mild climate (although with the wind and low temps we've had this week, you wouldn't believe it) and I have wonderful friends like you!
BTW- try googling your city followed by the word smokehouse and you might be able to find that smoked turkey. :)

rockync..thanks, maybe I'll try that!

Good to hear that business has picked up, too.

She..I've liked chickens!

You know what they say.."You can take the girl out of the country, but you can't take the country out of the girl." LOL

Seriously, in spite of all of the bad stuff going on, we all have so much to be thankful for.

I enjoying peeking into other's homes. Yours looks warm and inviting, Jan. :)

Seems like so many folks are just plain worn out right now. During times like that, our home reminds us how wonderful it is to have a private sanctuary. :)

Mrs. K..thank you!

Yes, the state of current affairs in this country has become harrowing, and it is a blessing to have a nice home, with comforting surroundings, to give us moments of peace. :)
