Have you read any good books, lately? May I suggest a couple that have some pretty enlightening information in them? I wouldn't suggest going out and buying them--the author is probably already pretty well-set--but they are available at your local library.
The books I am suggesting are, "Dreams From My Father" and "The Audacity Of Hope" by Barack Obama. I find it fascinating how much you can find out about a person in his written word--especially when his words are directed toward one particular group of people, or maybe, those who have the same ideology, whomever they may be.
Who knew, when he wrote them, that they would be read by such a diverse group, many of whom feel quite resentful at the philosophy of a man well on his way to becoming the President, and leader of our country?
Here are a few quotes from the two books:
Dreams From My Father
"The person who made me proudest of all, though, was [half brother] Roy .. He converted to Islam."
"never emulate white men and brown men whose fates didn't speak to my own. It was into my father's image, the black man, son of Africa, that I'd packed all the attributes I sought in myself.."
"The emotion between the races could never be pure..... the other race would always remain just that: menacing, alien, and apart."
"There were enough of us on campus to constitute a tribe, and when it came to hanging out many of us chose to function like a tribe, staying close together, traveling in packs.
"It remained necessary to prove which side you were on,to show your loyalty to the black masses, to strike out and name names"
"I found a solace in nursing a pervasive sense of grievance and animosity against my mother's race."
"I ceased to advertise my mother's race at the age of 12 or 13, when I began to suspect that by doing so I was ingratiating myself to whites."
"That hate hadn't gone away," he wrote, blaming "white people — some cruel, some ignorant, sometimes a single face, sometimes just a faceless image of a system claiming power over our lives."
The Audacity Of Hope
"Lolo (Obama's step father) followed a brand of Islam ...."I looked to Lolo for guidance."
"We are no longer just a Christian nation," "We are also a Jewish nation, a Muslim nation, a Buddhist nation, a Hindu nation, and a nation of nonbelievers."
"I will stand with the Muslims should the political winds shift in an ugly direction."
After reading the words, and sensing the passion found in his books, one has to wonder if he will be President of all the People...or just a chosen group, or groups. After all, his words speak for themselves.
"Where ambition can cover its enterprises, even to the person himself, under the appearance of principle, it is the most incurable and inflexible of passions."

Ahh, here's the Jan I been looking for for weeks! No matter where we fall on issues, Jan, I always respect YOUR thoughts and views and that is why I vivist your blog - to get your unique take on matters.
As you know I currently support Obama, but I've had reservations about ALL the candidates presented. And now you've reminded me that I want to read these books before I make my final decision in November.
I rarely buy books, like you, I usually hit the library. Trouble is I live in a small town so we have a small library and since his candidacy, the books have been out. I've been so busy lately with work and survival, I haven't had time to check back, but I will this week - see if I can't get on a waiting list maybe.
So, I won't comment on this post except to say thank you for your thoughts, I will consider them as I read these books and I'll email you afterwards.
As always, peace and love to you.
That's a great set of quotations, especially the ones from "dreams from my father."
He's a conflicted man. Maybe it's his upbringing, being out of the country, and having a black African father, he had to find some identity. It's so anguished!
I have both of these books, which were birthday and Christmas presents. I'm likely to read "dreams" sometime soon. I like John McCain's "faith of my fathers" tremendously, so I'm betting there's little I can make for comparison.
By the way, I posted on Obama today:
Start---->
"Senator Barack Obama’s character is an unknown. While the focus has been on his associations and their questionable character, another thought that surfaces is the question of Obama's character and whether it is more about his disloyalty than the specific purpose or principle of the associations we have so much trouble accepting. His character could be called into question by all sides. On the one hand, he appears to have a close association with Rezko, Wright, Ayers, Winfrey, and Odinga. On the other hand, whenever publically questioned, he appears to disown or disavow any shared purpose, principle or belief that these people hold so dearly as their life's cause. Which is it? With respect to character, either answer indicts Senator Obama as deceptive and disloyal."
<----End
Keep up the great posting!
rockync..thanks! :)
Donald..yes, I believe that he is conflicted in many ways.
It is said that a double-minded man is unstable in all his ways, too, unfortunately.
Thanks for commenting!
I can't speak for all pissed off Christian, gun toting rednecks but as for this pissed off gun toting redneck I will say this, I wouldn't piss in his ear if his brain was on fire...
Burn baby burn!!
Obama and his wife are racists, and there's more than adequate proof of it, both in his choice of churches, and the quotes in this post. Right now, there are people who can convince themselves otherwise. If they are successful in getting him elected, I suspect he will furnish more than adequate proof of his views in short order.
Hermit..I think there is something else about to be revealed about Michelle Obama's racist remarks.
I hope he doesn't become President, but with the way things seem to be going now, it looks like he could be. :(
